With the first big soaker just hours away, I can admit that Fall is here. We've been feeling it in the air for weeks now, but have not wanted to admit that the cooler weather was nipping at our heels. Summer was so wonderful this year, full of beautiful babies, sunny hot weather, river time with great friends and family, and of course our beautiful garden.
It also seemed all too short with it not really getting hot till July this year. Makes the idea of a rainy winter, (aka, being stuck inside with two kiddies during a rainy winter...) kind of daunting.

Forrest loving one of 3 apples he sampled after nap today. |
But, who am I kidding. I LOVE fall. I am the pumpkin lover of the world, loving all of the spice, cool fall air, lovely fall leaves and fires in the woodstove. And the rain hasn't kept us indoors yet, so I'm sure this wet season will be no exception.
The past two days we have been preparing for the rain, putting away all of our fun outdoor toys, getting loads of apples, squash, melons, tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes out of the garden and leaving the rest to fend for themselves in the wet weather, (or its just the simple fact, I have no idea what to do with 20 eggplant!!!)

My little watermelon hound...who knew October melons would be a perfect size for him! |
It's a nice feeling to see so much food in one place, and also a bit daunting trying to figure out what to do with it all!
Regardless, summer has been kind to us and again will be here soon. Time to get cozy and enjoy the cooler season :-)
